D500 Introduction to Adult Education Theory
In this course I analyzed the six major philosophies of adult education and throughout the semester I explored, developed, and determined my own personal philosophy of teaching- the humanistic philosophy. This course also focused on key philosophers and contributors to the adult education field.
D505 Adult Learning through the Lifespan
In this course I learned various theories and models of adult learning and development. I examined different learning processes and strategies to engage and promote development in adults. I explored my personal framework for adult development and how to effectively engage with adult learners across the learning spectrum.
D506 Adult Education Planning and Development
In this course I learned theory and practical applications on how to evaluate, analyze, and develop adult training programs. I learned about program design theories and how to implement appropriate program models. All of this was learned through collaboration with other students, analyzing existing literature, and conducting an in-depth evaluation of an existing education program.
D512 Seminar in Forms and Forces of Adult Education
This course was integral in my understanding of the history and current issues in adult education. Understanding the history of adult education has helped put into perspective our current issues or problems in higher education and adult education.
D521 Participation Training
This course focused on the collaborative process of learning. In this course I gained knowledge on how to effectively promote collaboration between students, by learning practical application of teamwork skills in a controlled setting. I also learned the skills necessary to lead/develop effective collaborative problem solving groups.
D525 Introduction to Distance Education Systems in Adult Education
In this course I learned the skills necessary to plan, develop, and facilitate education at a distance. I created a program proposal for a fictitious company that needed to switch their in-person training to an online format and then ultimately developed a (rough) prototype of the online training program.
D524 Power and Voice in Adult Education and Programs
In this course I explored the influence of power and voice has in students’ discourse communities and in adult education programs and activities. I increased my ability to critically examine trends in adult education and in identity construction. I also learned developmental models which can be applied to both personal and professional roles.
D640 Capstone Seminar in Adult Education
This course allowed me to gather and reflect upon all of my work as a graduate student and combine it all into one place, an e-portfolio. This course helped me see connections in my learning as I have reflected upon different papers and projects that were created in various courses. It has also helped me feel confident in my development as a professional and lifelong learner.
Y520 Strategies for Educational Inquiry
This course taught me the art of educational research critique and the general processes of educational and social inquiry. In this course I created an article critique rubric which was used to critique a research study and I also created a preliminary research proposal on the preparedness of transfer students.
U556 Student Development Practice
In this course I learned about the holistic development of students and the importance of identity development. I also learned key student development theories which were then applied to work both inside and outside the classroom. We focused on the psychosocial, cognitive, moral, learning, and spirituality theories of student development.
F500 Online Grad Orientation
This course provided me with the tools and knowledge needed to be a successful graduate student. I refreshed my academic writing skills, explored new collaborative technology, navigated new web resources for graduate work, and created my full plan of study.

In this course I learned about the different administrative roles and functions within higher education and also examined their relationships to students and student success. I researched and wrote about different issues and current trends in higher education and learned how to effectively promote positive change within higher education.

This course allowed me to examine the organization of student affairs departments and the functional areas. I learned various models of student affairs practice and then theoretically applied them to the programs I am familiar with. This course also helped me delve into aspects of student population, diversity, and campus culture that are all important to higher education institutions.
